Endowment Support
Today’s Scouts become tomorrow’s leaders, and the positive attitudes and attributes they learn in Scouting will continue throughout their lives. Your gift to the Heart of New England Council’s endowment fund ensures we can continue to make a difference in the lives of youth in our local communities for the foreseeable future.
Capital and endowed gifts can be unrestricted or designated by the donor for use in support of specific programs, initiatives, or building and/or renovation projects. The Development team works with donor partners to match their interests with the council’s needs.
Gifts to the council’s endowment are invested, and their earnings provide a permanent source of income for Heart of New England Council. Capital and endowment funds are vital to ensuring that Scouting will continue to fulfill its mission for generations to come.

The James E. West Fellowship
James E. West was the first Chief Scout Executive of the BSA. West worked with the founders to give direction to the infant program of the Boy Scouts of America. During his 33 year tenure, Scouting grew and matured into the program we recognize and enjoy today. The James E. West Fellowship award and knot is bestowed in recognition of gifts of $1,000 or more to the Heart of New England Council endowment fund. It recognizes those individuals who “lengthen their shadow” with a significant investment in the youth of tomorrow. Organizations or individuals may contribute an award in honor of someone – an Eagle Scout, a Silver Beaver recipient, Council, district or unit Scouter, or in memory of a departed loved one. There can be no finer honor paid to a Scouter than to be named a James E. West Fellow, indicating that the honoree has displayed the same spirit and dedication to Scouting as James E. West. The James E. West Fellowship Award is an attractive certificate, personalized with the honorees name. In addition, there will be a distinctive lapel pin and an embroidered square knot for uniform wear.

Second Century Society
The Second Century Society, SCS, is the Scouting America’s national social organization of individuals, families, foundations, and corporations stewarded by key volunteers and implemented by Scouting America National Foundation. Established in 2011, SCS, replaces the 1910 Society and Founders Circle as the way to recognize Scouting’s major donors at both the local and national levels. Qualifying gifts to be recognized as a Second Century Society member have a broader definition than Scouting’s major gift recognition in the past. These gifts include an outright gift of $25,000 or more payable over five years, or a deferred gift of $100,000 or more to a local council, the Scouting America Foundation, high-adventure base or any Scouting entity for operating, capital, or endowment.
Any donor who is recognized as a Second Century Society member is awarded a certificate and can wear the lapel pin indicating their level of support.
